Drilling a hole through the earth

If you drilled a hole from where I live (in Virginia) straight through the Earth, I always thought you would end up somewhere in China (okay, I watched waaaaay to many cartoons growing up).

Apparently, according to Google Maps and a handy little application you can add , the actual location is somewhere off the coast of Australia.
